Appraisal Documents

A jewelry appraisal can be performed on any item of jewelry, regardless of the composition, style, or condition. The purpose of a jewelry appraisal is to assign an estimated dollar value for an item, but market values change, so we recommend you have fine jewelry appraisals updated every five years.

The document will include weights, measurements, and a detailed narrative description of each item. Appraisal documents should also contain Identification, quality analysis, measurements and estimated weights for all gems as well as metal type and purity.

Valuations will be sent electronically to the customer, unless otherwise specified.

Labratory Reports

A laboratory report describes a mounted or unmounted gemstone and is akin to its "birth certificate". Reports differ for diamonds and colored gems, but documentation includes specifics about carat weight and dimensions, color and clarity grades, and detail relating to the gemstone's shape and faceting style. Lee Michaels provides Gemological Institute of America (GIA) or American Gem Society (AGS) reports for most diamonds that we sell.
